Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake PS5

The complete remake of the second volume of the FATAL FRAME (PROJECT ZERO) series, titled FATAL FRAME / PROJECT ZERO II: Crimson Butterfly, brings back this iconic Japanese horror adventure with a full overhaul.

The story follows two twin sisters who become lost in an abandoned village haunted by vengeful spirits. Armed with the Camera Obscura, a device capable of capturing and sealing supernatural entities, they face ghostly presences as they uncover the dark secrets surrounding the location.

This new version features major improvements to the graphics, audio, controls, and core gameplay systems. The Camera Obscura’s central mechanic remains a key part of the experience, now with greater depth in both exploration and combat. The introduction of the “Hold Mayu’s Hand” mechanic adds an extra emotional dimension, strengthening the bond between the two sisters and heightening the narrative immersion.

A Visually Stunning Remake

Graphics, sound, and controls have been recreated from the ground up. The character textures, including skin and clothing, have been crafted in fine detail, while Minakami Village has been carefully rebuilt with special attention to lighting and shadows, creating a dense, realistic, and unsettling atmosphere.

3D sound intensifies the sense of the spirits’ presence, making every exploration of the village even more immersive and disturbing. Side stories and new areas have also been added, delivering a deeper and more immersive experience in the world of FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly.

Enhanced Combat with the Camera Obscura

The signature gameplay based on using the Camera Obscura to repel spirits remains faithful to the original, but now includes new features such as Focus, Zoom, and Filter Switching.

The Filters offer distinct abilities for both combat and exploration, allowing players to adapt strategies to different spirits and help uncover the mysteries of the cursed village.
